I bought this cute little shelf unit at a second-hand store. It really needed a face lift, especially since I wanted to use it in my art room for keeping all my small bottles of cheap craft paints. You'd hardly know it's the same shelf! I first gave it a light sanding and wiped it down, just to give the new paint some "tooth" to adhere to. Next, I applied three coats of dark purple latex house paint. The edges were decorated with random swirly designs in copper fabric paint, the top has mirrors on it (including some broken pieces that I found on the ground somewhere), and there are broken bits of pottery and glass on both sides (which you'll see in the next pictures that I'll be posting). I found a bit of leftover iridescent "disco fringe" in my collection of ribbons, and couldn't resist adding it to the bottom.
It's nice because it gives me easy access to my paints and it looks nice on the wall. I want to make one for my glitters now. I have lots of them, and they don't fit in their box anymore. But I need to find a shelf unit with lots of shelves spaced close together, or else get someone to build one.
