Description
Unfortunately, I do not have a picture showing what this dresser looked like prior to being refinished. I could have sworn I took a picture, but I can't find it in any of my image folders, so I don't know if I lost it or just didn't take one. It was painted an off-white color, except for the top, which was bright blue. If I find the picture, I'll post it later. In the montage are, from top to bottom: front, left side, right side, and a closeup of a handle and metal fittings.
The green is a metallic mossy green from a line of paints called Modern Masters Metallic Paint Collection. It's an acrylic paint that covers REALLY well and goes on smoothly. I hardly did any prep work on this dresser--just some light sanding--yet the paint adhered well. I used two coats, but on a small project, you could get away with one.
The other color is called Country Tan, from the Apple Barrel brand of super-cheap craft acrylics, with a lighter color swirled in for interest. I left the handles as they were, but painted the metal fittings in a metallic bronze lightly brushed with a lighter dark gold color. Once the paint was dry, I coated the entire dresser in three layers of Polycrylic.
This was a fun, easy, and inexpensive project. The dresser was given to me, the paints cost about $12, and the Polycrylic is around six dollars for a small can. I attached small plastic slider feet to the bottom of the dresser so I could move it more easily--they were, I think, $5 or so. Total cost: about $23.
