Description

I bought this pewter Firefly Serenity keychain from some random online store for about $5. It looked kind of boring as just plain pewter, so I decided to punch it up a bit with a whole new look. I first cleaned it well with rubbing alcohol to remove any skin oils and dirt, then applied a coat of black multi-purpose acrylic paint. This paint can be baked on, or it can be left to cure for 21 hours; either method produces a good bond with the metal. I had to hang it on a toothpick to dry overnight, placing the toothpick across a small bottle. It looked like a weird insect cocoon! :D After it was dry, I applied light coats of copper and bronze paint, allowing some of the black to show through. I then gave it a little bit of verdigris with a mix of aqua and light green paint. The final task was to take a teeny-weeny brush and apply black paint to the details on the ship. It has a lot of detail for such a small object, and I didn't want it lost beneath the paint.
