Vintage yarn

Description

Check out the old yarn I bought for less than $9.00 at a second-hand shop!

Upper left: Four complete or nearly complete skeins--black, olive green, bright pink, light pink.

Upper right: Five variegated skeins--red, black, gray, white; ivory, tan, dark red, & mulberry; purple multi; white with dark red, dusty rose, and gray; yellowish-orange, brown, and cream (called "Apricot Print" on the label).

Lower left: Aunt Lydia's Craft and Rug Yarn; red, two shades of pink, and maroon.

Lower right: royal blue, dark navy blue, two partial skeins of variegated blue, and bits of two other blues.

Wintuk is still being made by the company, Caron International. Sayelle is the old name for DuPont's orlon acrylic fiber; this type of yarn is still made by Red Heart (called simply "acrylic"), but the Sayelle name isn't around these days, and you can only find it in thrift stores or auction sites.

Lion Brand yarns are still around, too, but they don't use the Printelle name anymore. The bright pink yarn is a Woolworth brand--those stores went out of business in 1997. The light pink yarn is the exact color of a dragon my mom once crocheted for me. I wore it out and she made me another one ...then I wore that one out, too, and she made a third one in a much brighter pink! I really loved my pink dragon! :aww:

I don't know what I'm going to use these for yet. Since I have so little of each color, I'll have to either make small projects, or combine them with coordinating colors of newer yarns.

The yellow and brown multi yarn could become part of a fall or Halloween project. The red-and-black multi is an odd combination that I've never seen before. I don't think I'll use the rug yarn at all, since I'm not into rug-making. I'm working on another project right now, but will be thinking of what to do with these cool vintage yarns. If nothing else, I could make a granny-square blanket with them!

Wow, that's cool!

You should make coats for bears. Those sell like hot cakes...for bears!
